August 2010 Southern Living Idea House in Senoia

The Merry Weather Garden Club met at the home of Ellen McEwen in Gay on Thursday the 5th for its August meeting.  The group traveled to Senoia to tour the Southern Living Idea House.
Named Abercorn Place, the townhouse is part of five units making up the brownstone project that oozes Savannah charm. The club members climbed the three stories of stairs and viewed each level as they worked their way down.  The latest decorating ideas were fun to notice and Southern Living provides each guest with a resource book listing every color paint used, cabinet designer, decorator, or manufacturer of an item.
Garden clubbers were especially impressed with the overall decorating choices of designer of Jamie McPherson who used great colors and fabrics and created a feeling of homey comfort with Southern style and elegance. Most of the items in the Idea House are readily available through Ballard, Ethan Allen, Marvin Windows, Sherwin Williams and the like.
Meriwether’s own Willis Everett of Vintage Lumber added a special touch too with stunning pocket doors of heart pine that separate the kitchen from the dining and living rooms.
Beautiful tiles, plush upholstered pieces, bright colors and storybook artwork in the children’s rooms and bathrooms, and outstanding light fixtures are some of the draws of the Idea House.  For the garden club, the porch and courtyard were fun to examine even though of postage stamp size.  Very modern in its low maintenance plan for today’s busy family. The townhouses overlook an impressive lake, water feature, and walking area that they all share.
Noticeable to the Meriwether visitors was the way the Idea House has impacted Senoia.  Visitors are flocking to and touring the house and downtown Senoia whose boutiques and gift shops are reaping the benefits. Jodi Wasden and Annelle Sebren have their shop next to the bakery, wine, and antique shops across the street from famed Holbergs. The garden club enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Founders Restaurant and understands why it is so highly recommended and praised.
